My name is James, and I am a student photographer passionate about capturing the world around me. I have been taking photos since 2022, and it has quickly become an integral part of my life, inspiring me to pursue a career in this field. While I primarily focus on wildlife photography, I have recently begun to explore portraits and other styles as well. This course has enabled me to incorporate photography into my daily routine, transforming it from a mere hobby into a central aspect of my life. I initially enrolled in level 2 media production before transitioning to level 3 photography & film a few months later. This website showcases all the work I have completed during my college journey, and I invite you to take your time to explore it.

Second Photo Idea

“The Stairwell Shot”

When I was walking down the stairs this morning I had a vision of a photograph using the compostion when looking down or up the stairs. I wanted the photo to be B&W to create a timeless mood and I wanted to have the subject isoloated with high contrast like kubrick. I wanted to have the portrait mindset of Lee Miller aswell so I wanted the photo to have an unusual view point with a psychological effect of reflection. So with that in mind here is the original photo and the edited version.

Original Photo

With the unedited photograph, I wanted to have the subject looking down to show a sense of reflection and emotion. I wanted the stair walls in frame to show depth in the photo and create framing and composition.

Edited Photo

I converted the image black and white to remove color distractions and focus on the light and emotion. I increased contrast to create a dramatic and cinematic atmosphere. I darkened the image around the subject to draw focus towards it and create subject isolation. I also used shadows the create a surreal, phycological mood and effect.

Review of the Shoot

I personally don’t see how I can improve this photograph, I believe its a good photo showing techniques from both Kubrick and Lee Miller. And I believe it can be part of my final series, I might change my mind on that but for now it’s my first photograph to be added to the series.
